Why you’ll love these sweet healthy snacks

Gosh, there’s so many reasons! I have an insanely big sweet tooth, so I’m always on the search for something new. During pregnancy, my favorite sweet healthy snacks are ones that can satisfy that craving while being higher in protein. With that in mind, these also:

  • Are so easy to make. As a working individual and at 32 weeks pregnant, my energy levels are slowly shrinking. I need something that’s quick to make and better if they can be prepped ahead!
  • Can be prepped in bulk. One of my favorite things about a few of these options are that they can be prepped in bulk. I like to meal prep on Sunday afternoons for the week and it’s a big win if I can prep a full week of snacks!
  • Simple steps to follow. I’m not saying I’m the worst cook, but I do love recipes that are very simple and won’t take me a long time in the kitchen! It’s better if they are done in 3 steps or less!
  • Readily available at your local grocery store. Some of these recipes are ones that you don’t have to make – you can just buy at your local grocery!

Try these sweet healthy snacks that are delicious!

We are big fans of not categorizing foods as “good” or “bad”. However, we are well aware that there are snacks out there that are “healthier” than others when you think about protein content, fiber, or calorie amount.

With that in mind, these are the snacks that I personally deem “healthy” for my diet and feel comfortable incorporating in my rotation of other foods. This does not mean that I only eat healthy foods – because I believe all foods fit!

Some snacks we’ll be covering in today’s blogpost are:

  • Peanut Butter Oat Cups (think like a Reese!)
  • Protein Balls
  • Granola Bars
  • Normal Granola
  • Fruit-based Snacks

Wherever you are in your food freedom journey, we are here to encourage you that all foods fit, and that food can be fun! These snacks in this post are ones that I’ve loved prior to pregnancy and have continued to enjoy during pregnancy at 31 weeks. If you have any suggestions on other snacks that I may like, leave a note below!

1. PB Oat Cups

If you love Reese’s like me, these need to be in your rotation of snacks to keep in the fridge! These PB Oat Cups from our client The Balanced Nutritionist is one of my absolute favorites to make.

The best part? They are no bake and only 4 simple ingredients: oat flour, PB, chocolate chips and maple syrup.

I don’t pay much attention to the nutritional content of snacks but I do know these contain lots of fiber and healthy fats. When those are combined, they make for a fun sweet treat that will also keep you fuller compared to other items out there!

2. Kodiak Protein Balls

If you follow me on Instagram, these Kodiak Protein Balls have made their appearance or two. I make these every Sunday afternoon because they are great to batch ahead. And – depending on how big you want the balls to be – it can make so many!

For my husband and I, this normally makes about 15. I tend to eat once a day for a snack and my husband every other day. That said, these can last us up to a week and a half!

I consider these great sweet healthy snacks because one ball is about 9g of protein and 24g of carbs – AKA, they will keep you full! Usually, I like to have my protein ball as a post-breakfast snack to hold me over until lunch and this works great!

They have several other flavors such as Birthday Cake – but I’m a lover of PB and chocolate so these are great for me.

3. Simple Mills Almond Flour Chocolate Brownie Bar

I actually just discovered these and boy am I glad I did.

Although lower in protein at 3g per bar, when paired with a cheese stick, this is a yummy options for your sweet healthy snacks.

The key to this item is the ingredients: Simple Mills focuses on clean, simple ingredients. This bar contains:

  • Almonds
  • Organic coconut nectar
  • Chocolate chips
  • Tapioca Starch
  • Seed flour blend
  • Cocoa extract
  • … and more!

Overall, highly recommend as a great grab and go option when those protein balls aren’t the best choice!

4. Purely Elizabeth Granola

Someone should have screamed at me to try this granola sooner.

As I was perusing Target (who doesn’t?), I stumbled upon this double chocolate cookie granola. Holy cow is it delicious! The only downside: we don’t have a Target in my hometown and apparently it can be very hard to find!

I love eating this by itself as a great source of fiber or pairing it with Chobani Vanilla Greek Yogurt.

I’m a very big “textures” person and love the crunchiness of the granola and that there are clusters in there as well. I need more of this in my life!

5. Apple Nachos

Last but not least is something you can likely make yourself with ingredients at home!

I call them apple nachos, but there could very well be another better term. However, this snack is easy and a for sweet healthy snacks at home.

All you need is:

  • Honey crisp apple (or apple of choice)
  • Melted PB
  • Dark chocolate chips

I like to slice my apple up into tiny slices, melt my peanut butter and drizzle on top. From there, I usually top with dark chocolate chips for some yummy goodness!

I have no idea on the nutritional value of this snack, but what’s better than fruit with PB and chocolate? Nothing. You can’t convince me otherwise.
