Looking for outfit inspo for your upcoming maternity shoot? That was me a few weeks ago and I’m happy to report back I have some great options for you! A few of these options are more expensive while others are less than $40! Either way, feeling confident is key.

Ladies, if you have been pregnant before, you know what a struggle it is to navigate your wardrobe. I talked more about that with my casual summer outfits suggestions. Your maternity shoot is a little different because it’s a time where you’ll actually be getting photos done of yourself.

For me, after learning I was a Light Summer, I tried to build my selection around my ideal palette. In this blog post, you’ll find:

  • A nap dress
  • An amazon dress
  • A boutique dress

Each of these options are “bump-friendly” and not actually maternity – so, you can wear it postpartum! Personally, I haven’t invested in many maternity items because I wanted to make the most of the amount I’m spending. Either way – all shapes and sizes – these are great options to have!

Avoid trendy outfit inspo

One of the biggest pieces of advice is to try your best to avoid trendy outfit inspo.

Following trends is super hard to avoid because it seems that every influencer or blogger on social media shares such cute items!

But – that’s where maybe “thinking before you buy” can be helpful! This might be a little annoying at times, but I always let an item sit in my cart for a few days before I buy it. This is really to gauge if I was just “influenced” to buy something or if I actually wanted it.

And tip: when you do this, you often get sales / coupons to your inbox because they really want you to buy that item!

Style inspo with dresses

I’ll be the first to admit that I am not good at styling an outfit because I’m really just not an accessory girl. Most of the time, I have on these Kendra Scott gold paperclip hoops, Buddha girl bracelets, and my ring stack.

However, if you are someone who really enjoys accessorizing your outfits, consider:

  • Textured handbags
  • Fun shoes
  • Layered necklaces
  • Different bracelets
  • Scarves – I’ve really wanted to purchase these Swells ones!

Throughout this post, you’ll only see my normal rotational items, but know that it’s really just personal preference on what you decide to add!

First Outfit Inspo: The Nap Dress

I have zero idea if this is actually correlated, but I’m convinced that they name this the nap dress because you can literally “nap” in it 😂

Again, comfortability is most important during pregnancy and finding something that bridges that gap with also being dressy enough for a photoshoot is a win!

I am planning on wearing this Hill House Nap Dress for our maternity photoshoot. Mainly because I feel really good in it! The top is more fitted with a stretchy material that I find flattering. Paired with the ruffled sleeves, I love how I looked in this neckline!

Plus, the flowy bottom doesn’t “hug” my body but allows me to place my hand under my bump to showcase it. I’m not the biggest fan of form-fitted items!

Second Outfit Inspo: The Amazon Dress

Hear me out: Amazon is really stepping up their game in clothes!

Normally I try to shop small to support other business owners (given I am one myself) but there are times where fast shipping proceeds all.

I ordered this tan ribbed dress after seeing it online, kept it in my cart for a few days and ended up buying it with the amount of showers and events we would have.

I am so glad I purchased it because it can easily be dressed up or down. This is a great maternity shoot option if you have a vision for something less dressy, more laid back and can be paired with sneakers!

My husband really liked this dress on me because of how much it showed my bump. To my surprise, I did too! Like I said earlier, normally I’m not a fan of form fitting but I just feel this made me feel confident. A big reason could be because it’s in my Light Summer palette!

Third Outfit Inspo: The Boutique Dress

This option was a very strong contender for my maternity leave photos! Instead, I think I’m going to wear this to one of my church baby showers 🤪

I had never heard of this boutique until searching on LTK for maternity options and this dress was just darling!

I ordered it in the color yellow (again, in my Light Summer palette) given that I have absolutely nothing in my closet that’s yellow.

Shocking enough, I loved it! The reason why I didn’t choose this as my “go-to” option was because I found it didn’t photograph well (on me) unless I was really holding my belly.

A big positive of this dress is the fact it’s literally like a nightgown but better!

Feel confident with this dress inspo!

No matter what you choose for your maternity shoot, all that’s important is that you feel confident!

Body image changes can have an affect on a ladies’ confidence throughout pregnancy but truthfully growing a human is a blessing from God. It has been such a joy seeing my body change knowing that I’ll soon meet our little boy!

And friend – if you are reading this and aren’t feeling your best self, you are so valid for having those feelings. But I’m here to say you are always beautiful!
